Title- Redesigning a Water Jug and overcoming some of the
shortcomings found in it.
We were asked to redesign a product which we find in daily
life. So I choose to redesign a Water Jug because I found some problems in the
jugs that were around me. Some pictures

Problems found with the present jugs-
1 Because of their cylindrical shapes the jugs were easily
susceptible to fall, if a slight push was given to them.
Sol- Jugs having their base wider than their top. Such jugs
will have centre of gravity downwards and hence will be more stable.
2 Grip of Handle of jugs is found to be quite slippery and
the shape of handles is also not very suitable to hold the jug for long time.
Sol- Jug provided with a rubber
grip to the handle. Also the shape of the grip is made so that it fits completely into the fingers and
the palm.
3 it is sometimes found that
people hurt themselves while drinking water because the corners of the jugs hit
the mouth.
Sol- the design of the mouth
was made so that it had no more corner edges but a shape which is curving like
the rest of the body.
4. It has been observed that
carrying about the cover is again a cumbersome job, many times it is lost also.
Sol-
The mouth is such that it has
maximum opening and makes it easy while pouring water into the jug.
And it can even be filled from
the same space.
To
take the opinion of the people around, a small survey was conducted for which
the questions and results are like below-
Taking
the various problems and their solutions found and the opinions given by
various users, I made several Iterations of the Jug. Some of the Iterations are
as follows-

the best out part out of all the iterations, the final model of the jug was
sketched. And the final model along with its dimensions is as shown in the
below figure-
